Like all women who have decided to live their most authentic life, I decided to do what most authentic women do these days…purchase an inauthentic bag. That’s right. You heard me correctly…a dupe, a fake…dare I say it…a counterfeit. In a world where the price of luxury goods, particularly handbags, has now rivaled that of a mortgage payment, the counterfeiters are one step ahead of the market, making luxury goods that are identical to the human eye. Or at least a human eye that may wear readers from time to time, or ones like myself that don’t care enough to pay attention to perfect stitching and the size of zippers.
But seriously, some of these dupes (replicas?) have gotten that good. Everyone has a guy, a girl, a website, a link to the dark web, a friend of a friend who can secure them the exact copy of the bag that they had been eyeing, and while it may not be real it’s close enough. In many cases, identical. And more importantly, they cost one tenth of the real deal.
In fact, just this week, there has been a media blitz on the topic after a TikTok frenzy, when these factories in China started to report directly from the factories to spill the tea, which was piping hot. I am sure you have seen the articles that luxury goods are now being exposed for being made in the same factories in China that are making these dupes. They are claiming these luxury bags are worth the same you’re paying for a dupe. Same factory, same leather, same hardware. The finished product, they claim, are just being sent to Paris or Italy for a stamp…which makes it authentic. In fact, the top two of the top apps in the App Store this past week are ones where you can buy these bags direct from from factories
